Money saving journey

In November for hubby's birthday I went to a local store and purcased him an electric guitar and amp combination. Well the amp was not functioning well. We assumed it was due to the fact that it was very little. We decided to purchase another Amp as soon as we had some money. I began price shopping. He finally got antsy today and wanted one NOW. We went to the local pawn shop and found an acoustic 12 string guitar for $69.95 and a Fender amp for $69.95. The guy ended up letting us have both for $110.00 plus tax. That was $30 less then what they originally asked for and less than the amp itself normally goes for. With the acoustic guitar I do not have to hear my hubby play as loud (he does not know how to play...but bless his heart he sure tries...for hours on end!)

I am attending school online and my desk is very very tiny. I decided I needed a flat screen monitor so I could actually fit my keyboard on my desk. We were lucky found a 19 inch Compaq monitor at Best Buy for $129.99. I love it and I can see everything better. I guess there is no exuse now for not having my work done. I did find out they just started carrying these and it did take us going to 2 stores but the Geek Squad guy at the last store grabbed the last one for himself since he said it was a great deal! The sale ended today. I love the fact that my speakers are on the monitor so that is added space too!

Win a Rain-X Car Kit!

Groundhog Day is just around the corner and while we’re sure you’re hoping he doesn’t see his shadow- you may be wondering what it has to do with wiper blades. Well, Rain-X and Jody DeVere, the President of the Women’s Automotive Association International and CEO of the auto-advice site AskPatty.com suggests using Groundhog Day as an annual reminder for you to change your wiper blades. Clear visibility while driving is extremely important and can improve reaction times in poor weather conditions. In fact, according to a report released in June 2008 by sciencedaily.com, nearly a quarter of all automobile accidents occur in rainy and wet weather so making sure you have properly working wiper blades is important to help avoid accidents in poor weather conditions. By routinely checking your wiper blades and performing safety checks on your car you can help increase your safety while driving during inclement weather.
Since winter is not quite over yet here are some tips from Jody DeVere to stay safe while driving in the rain, snow, slush and ice:
•Conduct a regular walk around checking your lights, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid and wiper blades regularly
• Ensure your tires are properly inflated and have sufficient tread
• As the temperature drops keep your gas tank at least half full; the extra gas reduces condensation that can plug your fuel line with ice and stall your engine in cooler weather
• Create an emergency pack; items like a blanket, first aid kit, snacks, bottled water, an ice scraper, flashlight and a bag of kitty litter

Monica from Mommy Brain Reports and I will be doing an a live interview with Jody on my Blog Talk Radio Show Thursday night at 8pm CST.

Mommy vs. Alex

This afternoon I decided I wanted to go to Homeland and get some deals so I would not have to go out tomorrow since Hubby has off work. I gathered my coupons and then I passed them to my son, Alex, with the ad and he picked out 3 coupons.

I bought:

Diet Ocean Spray Cranberry Juice (big bottle)
Gerber Lil Entrees
Colgate Toothpaste
Colgate Toothbrush
Rice Krispies
Marshmallows
Bread
Starkist Tuna Pouch
2 Hormel Chili with beans
Betty Crocker Potatoes
2 Suave Shampoo.

After coupons I spent a little less than $6.00 (including tax). I saved 82%!!

My son got:
Bread
Gerber Lil Entrees
Colgate toothpaste

He paid $1.52 and saved 85%

I guess I am teaching him young! His future wife will love me.

Welcome!
